Just To Let You know...

By Raphael & Katina Meade

April 2017

Minding my own business, chilling on the beach and I get a call. "The door has shattered!" What do you do when you're thousands of miles away (apart from panic!)?

Thankfully our manager Mandesa took control (once her heart stopped pounding) and sorted the matter. New door coming soon.

January 2016

The year 2014 was... very eventful. To say I'm glad it's over may be a slight understatement. Here's to the time ahead. Wishing all you regulars a happy, healthy, fruitful and awe inspiring new year.

A time for change. We say goodbye to Venus Chigwell today Friday 6th June 2014

Monday 12th April 2010

Fortunately for me, not much in the way of structural work was required for this shop. A few floor boards here, some shelves there, add and change some of the lighting and a good lick of paint. Oh yeah, reception and retail area. Can’t forget that!

Venus Chigwell and Venus Woodford are very similar in their set-up. This was not deliberate. Venus Chigwell was a salon prior to us taking it on as our own. It is very bright, spacious the retail section is a lot bigger than V1 and situated in a position of prominence on the parade.

"Nine years ago I was a College Lecturer teaching holistic therapies, when I first met and taught Nicola Bailey.

Three years later Nicola came to work for me in my newly established beauty salon in Woodford.

Nicola worked hard and built a wonderful rapport with our venus guests and beauty team. She rose through the ranks to become the manager of the Chigwell branch of Venus Inspired.

It has been a pleasure to watch Nicola grow and flourish and I am so very proud of all her achievements both in her personal and professional life.

As most of you know Nicola is expecting our first Venus baby and will go on maternity leave this Saturday

I just want to say a HUGE thank you Nicola for all your continuous hard work and wish you all the best with your new baby and I know you will be the most wonderful mummy"

Love you always Katina x

Yes. I am about to have a winge and moan. It's that time of the year when I know I'll be asked to do repairs, fresh paint, alter lighting, and, yes and, prepare for window displays. Wouldn't mind so much if I at least got a treatment!

I have an idea for the Christmas window display (watchout for it), but only one window. So my dilemma is which shop to put my idea into action? Hmm Maybe it's flip of a coin to decide.

Last year Rafaella and I constructed the window (see posting below) and I said, "Can't wait for next year."

Well now that "next year" is here, "it's come too flamin quickly!"

Also tempted to completely change layout of web page. Thing is, I know how irritating that can be when you have familiarized yourself with things as the person looking in. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

End of winge and moan

Last night (6th January 2013) they were taken down never to retun! The window displays I mean!! Can't bring myself to throw any of it away.

Got the flavour now though and can't wait for next year. Already know what I (and Rafaella of course) am gonna do.

Looking good girls, but should I tell me mum my baby sister is going out with a giant cotton bud around her waist!

Looking good

June 2012

I have a new ritual of reading in the bath. No, not comics! Proper books, and I don't mean Kindle. Anyway. My ritual also includes dowsing myself, head to foot in CAUDALIE Divine Oil. Love it! Ideal for me just before I decide to drop off for the nite. After all, have to make myself look good for the night time fairies. Never know who's looking at you do you?

Call me Flakey
10th May 2012
I have been taking medication recently for my cholesterol and am now noticing how my skin (all over head to foot) is dry. No, I mean DRY!! Going to see what cream is the most affective by creaming different parts of body with different products. I have a bias towards Africology, but that is purely because I love the rich sweet smell.
12th May
Begin Again!
Because I started my experiment with oil and cream, it was deemed unfair as the absorbtion rate and use of oil and cream on the skin are different. I will begin again Tomorrow Using all creams.

18th May 2012

Skin looking good now!

Using Keraskin on my arms, Palmers Coco Butter on my body, Caudalie on right leg, Decleor on my left leg and Carita on my face and bald head.

Well I can say that apart from smelling like every kind of sweetness, my skin no longer looks like fish scales or a road map. I will report further in a few days with my conclusive report on what is my fave cream.

26th May 2012

THE RESULT

It has been just over a week now that I have been dowsing with all these different creams in order to find which best suits me and my body. The decision is not an easy one as I like different creams for different reasons. The best way to find overal best was to construct my S.A.L.T table below. I have given each product a score out of 5 for Scent, Application, Longevity, and Texture. I also include in my calculations the containers and their ease of use.

The product CARITA is *not* a body lotion and is only included in the calculation to act as a control

  S A L
Total
Palmer's Coco Butterr Formula with Vitamin E 3 3 3 3 12
Keraskin Esthetics Intense Hydro-Nourishing Body Milk 4 4 3 3 14
DECLEOR Paris Aroma Confort Nourishing body milk 3 3 3 3 12
Caudalie Baume Vine Body Butter 4 4 4 4 16
CARITA Hydration Hydro-nutrition intense 3 5 4 3 15

Summing up

My personal preference for Scent is sweet. Caudalie and Keraskin both have a sweet scent only Caudalie is cake like. Works for me! With Application I again favoured Keraskin and Caudalie. CARITA scored higher on the S.A.L.T table, but is not a body product. Applying it to the face is pure pleasure.

Longevity during the day. None of the products needed to be reapplied, however, Caudalie leaves my skin with a sheen for a longer period than any of the other creams.

The Texture of Caudalie Is rich, moist, and abundant with a glow left after application.

Now I shine all over. Better than shake and leave a trail of flakes!

Venus Inspired is a family run business that is going from strength to strength. Admittedly we have had to do some things the hard and costly way, but it would be fair to say, we have learned from those mistakes. That’s not to say we won’t make further mistakes! I just hope they are not as painful as some made already.

Our daily aim is to provide for our clientele a beautiful relaxing experience. One that leaves them coming back and wanting more. Staff are more like friends. No! Scratch that. Staff are friends, but not during working hours. You can laugh and joke, but knowing when to get serious is a must. Education and self improvement is carried out with monthly classes and feed back usually held at the Chigwell branch. Occasionally chuck in a “mystery shopper” to keep them on their toes. Lovely

I Take it Back!

Friday 11th February 2011

Okay. So my complaint no longer holds water. Katina took Rafaella, me and my broken foot to see one of our celeb clients and how I loved it! I am not one easily impressed, but I have to say, I found my walls of resistance being broken down the more the concert continued. Was it good? Without speaking in a language more akin to the street, I have to say I was well impressed.

Am I moaning? An Age Thing

Wednesday 9th February 2011

Have you done the towels? We need daily sheets, consultation sheets, stock sheets, consent forms, compliment slips, business cards...  lights don’t  work, toilet keeps flushing, bring some heaters, take away the heaters, cleaning products are needed, door is jammed, need more shelving, can you get, can you bring... Yeah, a daily ritual. I wouldn’t mind if I were a paid member of staff. Even if I say it myself, they are lucky to have me.

The day is coming when I will be able to devote all my time to VI. I want it to look so good, smell so right and feel so inviting, you won’t want to leave. I like to know things do what they’re supposed to and because of this, I cost myself time and effort, but that is my daily contribution to Venus.

Thing is, I do all the “behind the scenes” grafting and reap none of the rewards. Honest!! Example. No names, but there have been quite a few prominent celebs come in and have I ever met them? Okay. I have been to a couple of homes, but I delivered and had to wait in the car. Says it all really eh?
